High-efficiency filters, also known as high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters or high-efficiency particulate arrestance filters, are a standard for air filter efficiency. According to general standards, HEPA filters must remove at least 99.95% (ISO, European standards) or 99.97% (ASME, U.S. Department of Energy) of particles with a diameter of 0.3 μm from the air passing through them. The filtration efficiency increases for particle sizes both smaller and larger than 0.3 μm.
